7th Annual Razorback Classic Celebrity Scramble

Although a slightly smaller field this year, our 7th Annual Razorback Celebrity Classic Scramble was a success on May 31st , 2008 at Bella Vista Country Club.

NWA Razorback Club President Doyle Groff presenting the $5,000.00 putting contest check to winner Dean Carter

The event started off “with a bang” when Dean Carter of Springdale won the $5,000.00 Putting Contest, sponsored by Vacation Rentals, Inc.  No player won the $10,000 Hole-in-One on Hole 15, also sponsored by Vacation Rentals.

A few more “bangs” were heard later in the morning, when a severe thunderstorm shut down play for 1 ½ hours. Players spent the time getting “relaxed”, with lots of Razorback-related stories being shared.

After play resumed, teams “smoked” the course, as evident with the final scores. Team McGill won 1st place with a score of 52 (-20) winning the $750.00 prize.

There was a three-way tie for 2nd place with a score of 54 (-18) between the teams of Bentonville High School, Cornerstone Construction and Go Pickle.com/Ad About You. Bentonville High School won the tie breaker (best score beginning with Hole 9) and received the $500.00 prize.

Closest to the Pin was won by Mike Dryer and Longest Drive was won by Bryan Seba (Marvin Caston, Director of Compliance for the Razorbacks (at the time of the tourney) is still checking the rules book to see if Crocs are legitimate golf shoes since he came in 2nd!). Comet Carriers won first team to register prizes and Al Yanick won a first individual to register prize.

Upon completing their rounds, the “starving” golfers (due to the delay) enjoyed a lunch of grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and dessert, provided by Premier.

Several raffle item winners were announced and bidding was fast and furious for auction items - including an autographed Coach Broyles photo, packages to Branson and Hot Springs, a package to the LPGA tournament and a couple of Coach Bobby Petrino autographed Razorback helmets.
